AYUDH Germany: Planting seeds for a safe future

Tags:

During their youth meet from May 23rd – 25th, AYUDH Germany planted Bantam, a special kind of corn, in the garden of M.A. Center Germany. Apart from delivering tasty sweet corn and popcorn the organically grown Bantam helps prevent the cultivation of genetically modified (GM) corn close by.

As per German law, farmers in the surroundings are now required to inform us if they plan to plant GM corn, and are obliged to protect our crop from their pollen. In this way, AYUDH Germany took part in an initiat ive called SOS (Save Our Seeds, see www.saveourseeds.org), which is conducted all across Germany.

Many activity groups and farmers who joined the cause have already succeeded in preventing the large-scale cultivation of GM corn, which can seriously affect the biodiversity and might lead to unknown side effects when consumed by humans. The AYUDH Germany group is looking forward to care for, harvest and prepare the popcorn for the public during Amma’s next visit to Germany.
