AYUDH Belgium: Planting Trees
22nd of March 2009, Knesselare, Belgium
With our shovel, at 11 o’ clock in the morning, we were ready to plant a small new wood at Knesselare. We were 4 Ayudh’ers and around twenty in total to get the 240 trees carefully into the ground. Willow (Salix alba or White willow) was the kind of tree we were going to plant on the parcel of Friends of Amma. (Willow is known for its medicinal properties against headache e.g.)
After a short initiation how to plant the trees, the planting advanced smoothly. Luckily the organizers had already made holes in the though clay ground which made the job much easier. On top of that the weather was quite sunny, so it was nice being busy.
After approximately two hours all the 240 trees were planted in their new environment. As a clincher we all chanted together three times Om Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavanthu (”May all beings in the world be peaceful and happy”).
Some of us felt like going on with the work, so in a neighbouring parcel we helped planting some additional Winter Lindens (Tilia cordata). Finally we had lunch and carpooled back home.
